There are quite a few ways to cover windows in your home, and each can be adapted in terms of design style, functionality, and affordability. When it comes to your bedroom, there are usually some main factors to consider, light control and privacy being the main recurring and most important. A blind option that never goes out of style, are Venetian blinds. These blinds offer a timeless feel to your window area, and last for many years, making them one of the most popular blind choices for your home.

Venetian blinds can be styled anywhere in your home, and often to some deliberation, your bedroom too!

What are Venetian blinds?

Venetian blinds are made from horizontal slats that layer together and fold seamlessly when shut. As a result, they not only cover the window but also create a decorative effect, with the simplistic slats. There are many fabrics to choose from, so you can match them to your interior design style. High-quality Venetian blinds will last for many years. They look good both pulled up to the ceiling, or lowered, and can easily be manoeuvred and wound up correctly to suit your preferences with a simple pull of the cord.

Venetian blinds often come in wood, faux-wood and metal fabrics, so that they can be styled in a variety of spaces throughout your home. However, there is often some controversy as to whether they can be styled in a bedroom, as they don’t offer all of the qualities of the usual bedroom blind choices.

Which Venetian blind is best for you?

Aluminium metal, and faux-wood blinds are the most practical Venetian blind choice, they are your best bet for busy bedrooms as they are splash proof, won’t warp with moisture and you can wipe them clean when dust assembles. Real wooden blinds bring a softer, more organic feel to windows than Aluminium blinds. While they are great for bedrooms as there is often a lot less moisture than in a kitchen or bathroom space, and offer a lot of character and elegance to your space.

Bedroom privacy and light control

With their modern style and easy-to-adjust slats, Venetian blinds are super versatile and will work in any bedroom. They offer privacy while still allowing light to flow in, and work flawlessly in small spaces, and are fairly low-maintenance, depending on the material you go for. Also, if you’re decorating on a budget they are a very in-expensive window treatment. The horizontal slats stack tightly together when wound shut, keeping light trapped out and privacy control at your fingertips. Winding the slats open allows for a lot of natural light to flood in, but still offers a lot of privacy as the slats act as a barrier for anyone trying to look into your home.

However, as much as these slats do offer some light-filtering features, it’s also important to mention that they do not contain blackout qualities. As these blind slats don’t lie completely flat, some light will still seep in through the layers in the horizontal slats. This doesn’t mean that you can’t have Venetian blinds in your bedroom though. If you choose to sleep with an eye-mask on, or simply aren’t affected or prefer to be awoken by the natural light, then these could still be a great choice for you and your needs! If you do still want blackout qualities in your bedroom though, you can look at pairing blackout curtains with your Venetian blinds. This will not only solve the problem of full light control, but also offer a very stylish addition to your window area, allowing your blind to look even better in your bedroom!

Maintaining Venetian blinds in your bedroom

This style of blind is often very easy to maintain and clean, which is why they are the desired choice for many homes – including bedrooms. Waterproof Venetian blinds, such as blinds made from PVC can be cleaned thoroughly with warm water and wet cloths to remove heavy dirt and grime build-up. This is why these blinds can be a great option for busy bedrooms, like young teenage bedrooms, as dirt can often build up quickly in these spaces! However, using too much water on Real Wooden blinds may cause damage, as the wooden slats may warp and bend. For these types of blinds, it’s best to minimise the amount of water you use, and simply use a Venetian blind cleaner specifically formulated for wood.

These blinds offer a minimal, sleek look at your window and also tie in very well with the industrial interior theme. These can often look really stylish paired with monochromatic accessories, and rustic furniture. Wooden blinds offer a more organic feel to your bedroom.
